Liverpool breeze past rivals Man United to continue their unbeaten run.

The most intense rivalry in English football sees Liverpool comfortably return to the top of the Premier League through two second-half deflections from Anfield’s new super-sub, Xherdan Shaqiri. Despite Jose Mourinho's pre-match comments on Jürgen Klopp's side, the Reds seemed unphased by any challenge as the supporters made their presence known.

I played against a Liverpool side who was a European champion, and I don’t know if this one is better or not I know the another one was European champion and this one won nothing. So I think I have to respect the ones that did it.

Liverpool quickly responded as they took an early lead courtesy of a well played goal by Sadio Mané. However, goalkeeper Alisson’s unsteady hands let Manchester United's Jesse Lingard steal a brace for an equaliser that changed the complexion of the game. At 1-1 there was a considerable period when Liverpool looked short of ideas.

An adventurous move from Klopp, replacing Naby Keïta with Shaqiri in the 70th minute left people with open arms. The substitute scored twice within 10 minutes, which left Mourinho spending the remainder of the game listening to the crowd’s prodding chants. Manchester United legends Ed Woodward, Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson were caught in dismay, glaring from the stands.

While it is the worst points total for Manchester United at this stage of a season for 26 years, Liverpool steal the spotlight of tonight's performance as they set a Premier League all-time record of attempts on goal. An impressive 36 shots on target were recorded which left specatators confident that the Reds will secure the three points.

After the match, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had only praise for his side's near-perfect performance. He also commented on his new super-sub's stellar performance.

You need a bit of luck, what we needed for both goals with the deflections, but bringing the situations, having these moments, that was football, huh?
Shaqiri believes his side can maintain their challenge at the summit if they continue to produce the character and quality on show against United.

Introduction to Ben's Football Blog

Welcome to everything football. Ever since I could remember, I was always trying to find a way to involve football in my life. Whether it was through training or watching matches, I always managed to find myself involved in football all my life. As I young kid I trained in Malta with a couple of clubs and some years with the national team. However as I got older, I began to appreciate and realise what an important role the media plays in modern-day football more than ever. A  report has been released stating that football is the most popular sport in the world. With this, it finds itself at the pinnacle of all sports related news outlets; especially across Europe and South America. This comes with an incredible amount of funds being injected into the sport, and a lot of controversy alongside it. This blog intends to cover the top five leagues in Europe, consisting of the English Premier League; La Liga (Spain); Bundesliga (Germany); Ligue 1 (France) and the Serie A (Italy). Transfe

Manchester City's unbeaten Premier League campaign continues

Did anyone really believe that Manchester City could lose to Bournemouth? Whilst the Cherries have been enjoying a brilliant season under new manager Eddie Howe and sit comfortably in 9th place, Manchester City have been running rampage with the Premier League title defense. Many thought it would be too good to be true but Pep Guardiola's men have continued their unbeaten run with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday. Goals from Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan sealed the win against the Cherries, to secure their sixth league win in a row. This sees the Citizens five-points clear of chasers Liverpool, who have sealed their three points this weekend against neighbours Everton.  City took the lead after the first 16 minutes through Bernardo Silva's shot, but Bournemouth got a deserved equaliser late in the half as Callum Wilson's fine header found the top corner right before the half-time whistle. It was Sterling who supplie
